Nintendo "V-Pocket" makes the DS a PDA

Two new Nintendo patents have created a dervish of speculation on the web. Until today. Gaming site SPOnG today posted this from official Nintendo sources...

"...the V-Pocket trademark concerns Nintendo’s licensing of the Palm OS based PDA software. Nintendo will soon unveil a complete suit of personal organiser tools for its Nintendo DS platform, expected to be shown before E3...."

This is great news and it isn't a rumor. SPOnG promises to have more on the subject in the days and weeks ahead as news filters in from Japan.

It'll have a browser, won't it? Please let it have a browser.

I really wouldn't trust this website at all. They cite "official Nintendo sources;" then why did Nintendo tell GamesIndustry.biz on the same day that "we are filing hundreds of patent and trademark applications every year, and it is our policy not to comment on any one of them"? Why haven't any news of a Nintendo-Palm agreement turned up on any major game sites? (Believe me, that kind of announcement would warrant a weekend update.) And more importantly, would Nintendo really reveal its big new PSP-killing project using an anonymous source to an obscure gaming website on the very day they apply for the trademark? Or, if not, do you really think SPOnG had the good fortune to catch a disgruntled Nintendo employee while drunk and get him to answer questions?

As Gamespot and/or Bill and Ted might say... bogus.

Let's hope Nintendo does have a Palm-like project up its sleeves, though; it's exactly what the DS needs right now (besides online play, dammit).

If you've never heard of Spong, they've quite literally never been correct. Ever.

About PCGP, the theory on other sites is that it stands for Pokemon Card Game Players, which makes sense. I think it's more likely that the V-pocket is an accessory that lets you play movies and mp3s on your DS (with V standing for video or visual). I'm unsure whether or not Nintendo would license Palm OS though.

Yes, but Nintendo have already registerd the name for the GBA/DS movie player - Play-Yan. I reckon it's more likely to be a PDA type application as many people have requested it and it would suit theDS perefectly. You could even use the GBA slot as memory for things like Tempory Internet Files, word Docs and pictures and cookies.

Close but no cigar, Leif902 - you're thinking of Organizer Plus, a PDA that software announced as in development by another company.
